With the new season fast approaching us let’s have a sneak preview of what to expect for the ITRC 2023 calendar!
Can Anyone Stop Josh Moffett?
There was no doubt Josh Moffett stole the show in the rally scene in Ireland last year, Josh Moffett said his success in last season’s Irish National Rally Championship was anything but a walk in the park despite winning all of the rounds he started in his family-backed Hyundai including one at the famous Donegal International Rally a dominating feat not repeated since Craig Breen back in 2019.
The start of the 2023 campaign will not be distracting the 30-year-old from harbouring thoughts of drawing level on three titles with Niall Maguire and Declan Boyle.
The Title Challengers
Josh will have a target on his back for sure this season as drivers like Alastair Fisher and Josh’s brother Sam one of the handful of names who will be taking the fight to the championship in 2023.
Making Their Mark On The Map
The ITRC is soon becoming a stable fold from within the rallying calendar. Touted by having one of the best tarmac stages & backed by its stunning backdrops/views there can be no dispute of it. Whilst all of the rounds are back this season there has been a minor change to one. The Circuit of Ireland (One of the oldest rallying events ever) will only be on for just one day rather than its traditional two-day event.
As part of the move, the founding Ulster Automobile Club is joined forces with Cookstown Motor Club for the first time in the history of the closed-road meeting to organise, promote and run it. The move behind this is because to make the event more cost-effective which in return would lower the entry fee, accommodation and car running costs for teams.
The Historic & Modified Championships
Be prepared for more sideways action from the historic & modified categories as it looks like once again it will be another competitive year from each respective championship! Modified champions Simon Reid and John Murphy will be defending their titles while Neil Williams and Antony O’Sullivan will be looking to do the same in the historic event each driving Ford MK2 Escorts respectively.
