Since it was announced last week that a major increase in the cost of public liability insurance for motorcycle sport in Northern Ireland could force the cancellation of all events during 2023, the Coleraine and District Motor Club has been overwhelmed by the public support we have received during this critical time.

The motorcycle world was rocked here in Northern Ireland when news of the hike in insurance was made clear to all the promoting motorcycle clubs.

Road Racing Fans across the world was shocked from the announcement last wekk

It was clear to these clubs within the MCUI(UC) that the increase was unaffordable to most if not all running events this year. The clubs could not agree to progress with the purchase of the insurance policy, despite knowing fully that this would mean the cancellation of all two-wheeled sport in Northern Ireland in 2023. The MCUI(UC), not having the funds to purchase the insurance could therefore not continue.

Organisers of the fonaCAB and Nicholl OIls North West 200, the club fully supports the MCUI Ulster Centre’s Go Fund Me crowdfunding campaign that has been launched to help cover the cost of insurance for all race events here.

They also want to assure the general public that they are continuing to pursue every possibility to avert this crisis and run the North West 200 on May 7-13 as planned.
