The BBC says confirmed that it has halted the latest series of Top Gear after presenter Andrew “Freddie” Flintoff was hurt in an accident while filming.
The presenter who previously was a former England cricketer got injured last December at Top Gear’s test track at Dunsfold Park Aerodrome in Surrey. The broadcaster said a decision on how best to continue would be made later this year.
In a statement by the BBC “We have sincerely apologised to Freddie and will continue to support him with his recovery.
“We understand this [halting the show] will be disappointing for fans, but it is the right thing to do, and we’ll make a judgement about how best to continue later this year.”
He joined Top Gear as a host in 2019 and has co-starred in the show with Paddy McGuinness and Chris Harris after a shakeup which have included the departures of Chris Evans, Matt LeBlanc and many more who joined the show since the Clarkson, Hammond & May left back in 2015.
They have found moderate success since they switched channels from BBC2 to BBC1 especially in Series 30 where they averaged around 6.4 million views in 2021.
However since reaching that peak the show has dwindled in views. Is it time to pull the plug on Top Gear? Time will tell.
