Arron Newby put in a truly cracking performance to win the hotly contested second round of the Welsh Rally Championship by an incredible 30 seconds on Saturdays Rallynuts Stages Rally.
The day started at 8am with a minutes silence and ended with total respect from the top championship crews as they decided not to participate in the traditional manner, spraying the champagne.
The overall Welsh Rally Class victory went to Matthew Hirst co-driven by Declan Dear in his Pirelli-shod Delta Salvage Ford Fiesta R5 who also finished third overall in the event. Second went to Elliot Payne who edged out Hirst but just one second.
Having also won Rally North Wales, Hirst has a perfect score of 60 points from the first two Welsh Championship rounds.
In the historic class, Nick Elliott came out on top in a titanic battle with Robert Gough. Trading fastest stage times between the pair Elliott edged him by just one second at the final stage. 3x Historic Champion Jason Jason Pritchard finished third in the class.
Round 3 of the Welsh Rally Championship is the Bala-based Plains Rally on Saturday 20th May.
