The World Rally Championship’s top-flight could revert back to a non-hybrid car at the end of next season, if agreement can’t be found with current hybrid supplier Compact Dynamics.
In an article on DirtFish, compact dynamics’ contract to supply the WRC is up at the end of 2024 and no new deal has been reached.
DirtFish understands the discussions are centred on reliability and performance as well as the inevitable negotiation on cost.
Last week, The World Rally Championship identified three potential car manufacturers with whom it wishes to continue discussions as it aims to attract at least one new marque in the future.
Skoda, Alpine and the Stellantis Group, which owns Abarth, Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Citroen, Dodge, DS, Fiat, Jeep, Lancia, Maserati, Opel, Peugeot and Vauxhall brands, have declared their interest in joining the WRC, if regulations were to be changed in the future.
