Richard Tuthill and Dale Furniss take the provisional win in their Porsche 911 after a final stage showdown with Marty McCormack and Barney Mitchell.
McCormack lead Tuthill after SS2 but only by 2s and just 5s separated the top 5. McCormack dropped time with a misfire in SS4 and Tuthill wason a mission – taking over the lead by just 1s at the halfway point.
McCormack set a blinding time in SS5 & 6 to regain the lead from Tuthill. Hetherington ended his rally in a ditch in SS5 giving Elliott 3rd as Chilman gives chase in 4th.
Meanwhile in Category 2, Mike Stuart was losing oil in his MK1 over the finish of SS6 and was forced out of the event giving Josh Carr the Category2 lead.
In both Categories it was all to play for going into the final two stages of the Plains Rally. The question was that who was going to come out on top?
Nothing could separate Tuthill and McCormack going into the final stage as Tuthill took 5 seconds off from the MK2 driven by McCormack.
However it was the 911 which came out on top. Claiming a 2 second stage win and overall victory. McCormack finished 2nd with Tom Walster in 3rd respectively. Josh Carr claimed the Category 2 class honours.
