Day 1 of the 2023 Wilton Recycling Donegal International Rally has come to a close and Josh Moffett and Andy Hays are the leaders after the first day of rallying.

In another stella field with over 170 entries to this years event it was once again a competitive battle at the top with Josh Moffett and Callum Devine duelling it out in the opening loop.

Josh Moffett and Andy Hayes took the early lead in their defence of the Donegal International Rally – 3.9 seconds ahead of Callum Devine and Noel O’Sullivan after the bumps and jumps of Donegal Bay.

Kevin Eves is quickest out of the initial modified runners. The stages are hot, the pace is hot – looks like another brutal Donegal three-dayer.

Gary Jennings completed the top 3 as he was looking to continue his stella run of form after winning last months Tour of the Sperrins.

By stage 3 it was advantage Josh Moffett after Donegal’s opening loop of stages. Three stage wins on the bounce give him an early lead over Callum Devine.

At the end of Day 1 Josh Moffett held a 4.9-second lead over Callum Devine who made a bit of a fightback this afternoon.

Josh’s brother Sam lied in third after edging out Gary Jennings with Desi Henry in the Top 5 places.

Kevin Gallagher was 10.3 seconds ahead of Kevin Eves in a healthy modified battle. Ioan Lloyd was out front in Rally4 with his Peugeot 208 Rally4 sitting inside the top thirty.
