Two people have been killed while taking part in a Co Sligo rally, Motorsport Ireland has confirmed. The Sligo Stages Rally was halted following a serious traffic incident that took place earlier this afternoon.

In a statement, Motorsport Ireland said it extended its deepest sympathies to the families and friends of two competitors.

The incident happened at the sixth stage of the rally at around 3pm.

Gardaí have asked that footage of this collision at the Sligo Stages Rally is not shared across social media or messaging applications.

The event was led by Callum Devine and Noel O Sullivan who held a 42.1 seconds from Josh Moffett And Keith Moriarty with Daniel Cronin and D Burke in third place until the accident occurred.

A further police statement is due to be held sometime tomorrow.
