Noel O’Sullivan and his driver Callum Devine faced an unusual dilemma at the Ulster Rally. The Volkswagen Polo RC2 crew arrive at the rally’s base, Newry, with one thing in mind.

The winners of the Cork ‘20’ could secure their first Irish Tarmac Rally Championship title on the two-day event depending on how they fare against their chief title rivals Josh Moffett and Meirion Evans.

Lying first in the standings, O’Sullivan needed a to finish ahead of rivals Andy Hayes and Jonathan Jackson to claim the championship and that’s exactly what happened.

One of the title challengers came to an abrupt end when Evans & Jackson stopped on the stage 2. Facing difficult condition, there windscreen wipers broke thus going off the road and retiring from the event.

This left just Moffet & Hayes remain. Devine was more consistent than Moffett including taking a couple of stage wins in the process.

With Devine and O’Sullivan finishing second overall and Moffett & Hayes only taking fifth, this was enough to secure his first Irish Rally Tarmac Championship.

It has worked well for the duo throughout this whole season especially when they have been collecting wins in other events such as the Donegal, Rally of the Lakes etc.

For O’Sullivan he has claimed another major co-drivers title as has took last years British Rally Co-Drivers Championship with driver Osian Pryce.
