Rally Ireland could return to the World Rally Championship as early as 2025 but it will depend on funding said Motorsport Ireland president Aiden Harper, who added that the World Rally Teams that took part in Rally Ireland in 2007 and 2009 have always spoken of a desire to return to the Irish Tarmac.
Harper revealed that following an expression of interest from the WRC Promoter, the wheels have now been put in motion.
Mr. Harper was anxious to comment on claims earlier this week about WRC drivers coming to Ireland to participate in the next Raven’s Rock Rally. It appears that Thierry Neuville spoke about with popular media outlet DirtFish.
The Raven’s Rock Rally is not scheduled to return to the MI calendar until 2025.
World Rally Championship organisers are “100% behind” Northern Ireland hosting a round of the series in 2024, says WRC event director Simon Larkin.
However in recent months those plans have came at a stumbling block mainly due to the political uncertainty in Northern Ireland and financial resources to back the event.
