Kris Meeke is to compete in the upcoming Carlisle Stages in preparation for next month’s RAC Rally.

In an attempt to bring himself up to speed with the Wales Motorsport Team rear-wheel-drive car for the biennial loose surface event, the 44-year-old is entering the Carlisle Stages Rally to accrue seat time and clock up stage miles.

Meeke has given the clearest signal yet that he is not going to make up the numbers on his first ever visit to the Roger Albert Clark Rally.

Five-time World Rally winner Meeke recently announced that he will tackle the November 23-27 meeting at the wheel of a full historic-spec Ford Escort Mk2 RS1800 with Noel O’Sullivan.

He is also going to get the chance to drive competitively in the dark as the October 20/21 fixture opens with two night tests in the Kielder Forest complex.

Fellow Roger Albert Clark contenders Marty McCormack and Jason Pritchard, Matthew Robinson, Richard Tuthill, Roger Chilman and Steve Bannister will provide competition at the Carlisle Stages as its the final round of the British Historic Rally Championship.
