With the announcement that Rovanpera will be competing in the WRC part time next season everybody is now speculating that 2024 will be the year for Elfyn Evans to claim that Drivers title.
At Rally Japan, Evans secure runners-up spot for the third time in four seasons with Toyota. Whilst it was an up and down season for the Welshman, he still managed to pick up three wins and secured the team another manufactures championship in the process.
Whilst I’m sure it has been another success for him this year, there is no doubt next year will make or break his WRC career.
After securing a career-high three wins in a World Rally Championship season, and almost doubling his points tally from last year over the same number of rounds, it’s fair to say Elfyn Evans’ 2023 was a huge step forward from his 2022.
But make no mistake, he will have challengers to compete in 2024. Neuville & Tanak seems to be the likely ones but what about a potential darkhorse such has Evans’s teammate Takamoto Katsuta?
While the potential for further improvements in the car is a positive sign for Evans, he also knows there’s more potential to come from himself.
Reflecting on his year at season’s end, the Welshman is clear on where 2023 was lost, and is on a mission to find those extra few points across a season that might make all the difference in 2024.
