Following in the tyre tracks of his dad, Charlie’s, ten wins on the event, Elliot Payne ushered in the new generation by taking a stylish win in the Inter-club event of the KT Green Riponian Stages Rally.
The 21-year-old, who is based near Ripon, successfully secured another victory after winning in last year’s event to emerge 50 seconds to the good in the Ford Fiesta Rally2 he was sharing with co-driver Patrick Walsh. after six stages on the North Yorkshire Moors.
After a steady run through the opening test, Payne set the fastest time on the remaining five stages held in Cropton and Wass forests to take the victory ahead of Alister Ginley & Thorley Craig in their Fiesta R5.
Stephen Peach & Michael Wilkinson claimed the final podium spot in their Skoda Fabia Rally 2 over a minute behind the winners.
