As a mark of respect I have not added reports from the Clare and Sligo rally’s respectively.
Midland Moto Stages
Callum Devine and Noel O’Sullivan took a start-to-finish win in the Ardmore Air Conditioning Longford Arms Hotel Midland Moto Rally on Sunday – the opening round of the Triton Showers National Rally Championship.
It was the Volkswagen Polo gtI crew’s second victory together after taking their maiden victory on the Rally of the Lakes last May.
They took a 10.7-second victory over former British Rally Champion Matt Edwards. Darren Gass and Barry McNulty in their Citroen C3 Rally 2 spun on the first hairpin on stage one and stalled on the start line of stage six but they were able to hold off of Sam Moffatt and Keith Moriarty in their newer version of the Hyundai 20 Rally 2 to take fourth place.
Circuit of Kerry
Josh Moffett and navigator Keith Moriarty took the top step of the podium 44th edition of the Circuit of Kerry Rally and, in doing so, they have drawn level on at the top of the National Rally Championship standings with runner-up Callum Devine.
It wasn’t to be for Kerry Motor Club navigator Noel O’Sullivan who was with Callum and held second place throughout the day but they couldn’t find the precious seconds they needed across the nine fantastic stages.
Kevin Gallagher held onto his podium place by 13.6 seconds despite a late spin. Alcorn had overtaken Barry on stage eight but a spin in the final stage meant Barry went on to claim fourth place.
Cavan Rally
There was a grandstand finish to round three of the Motorsport Ireland Triton Showers National Rally Championship – the Hotel Kilmore Cavan Rally.
Eventual winners Josh Moffett and Keith Moriarty entered the final stage near Drung 0.3 of a second in arrears to Callum Devine and Noel O’Sullivan.
Third seeds Desi Henry and Paddy Robinson made their maiden Triton Showers National Rally Championship appearance of the year and finished where they started in third.
Ravens Rock
Josh Moffett recorded his third straight win in the Triton Showers Motorsport Ireland National Rally championship on Ravens Rock.
Moffett took a start-to-finish victory in the Waterford City Ford Raven’s Rock Rally on that Sunday. Armed on this occasion with brother Sam’s upgraded Hyundai i20 Rally2, the Monaghan driver’s win was never in doubt.
Moffett and co-driver Keith Moriarty arrived back at the Viking Hotel with a 42.4-second advantage over Declan Boyle and stand-in co-driver Paddy McCrudden.
ALMC Rally
On a day of sunshine and rain, the Derry/Kerry crew of Callum Devine/Noel O’Sullivan (VW Polo GTi R5) prevailed on the ALMC Hellfire Rally in Oldcastle, round six of the Triton Showers National Rally Championship.
Devine/O’Sullivan finished two seconds ahead of the Derry/Donegal pairing of Desi Henry/Shane Byrne (Citroen C3 Rally2).
Championship leaders Monaghan’s Josh Moffett and Limerick’s Keith Moriarty (Hyundai i20 N Rally2) were 4.6s further behind in third.
Skibereen Rally
Josh Moffett survived a final stage scare to retain the Irish National Rally Championship title for a third consecutive season to equal the record held by fellow drivers Declan Boyle and Niall Maguire.
Knowing a win would guarantee him the Vard Memorial Trophy and in the process scupper Callum Devine’s hopes of adding it to the Irish Tarmac title he won back in August, Moffett went on the offensive in the second half of an event where persistent rain — and standing water — added to the challenge.
