Michael Dunlop could be on the verge of more history this weekend as he looks to surpass his late Uncle Joey’s Isle of Man TT wins.
Ahead of the 2024 schedule, Michael is one win away from equalling that prestigious record of 27 wins held by Joey Dunlop from the year 2000.
At the age of 48, Joey wound back the years to claim the one win he wanted more than any other on the 1000cc Honda SP-1.
Joey Dunlop’s famous victory in the Formula One race at the Isle of Man TT in 2000 is regarded as his greatest performance ever around the Mountain Course.
In total he won three races that year before his ill fated race at Estonia a month later.
For Michael aged 34, he has nothing to lose nor to gain. He simply enjoys roadracing. He made his TT debut in 2007 and everybody seen him as a real potential to achieve greatness.
In 2009 he won his first TT race by winning the Supersport Race (2). Now destiny stares at him. Heartbreak, pain & suffering comes at all of us every once in a while. The Dunlop Family have witnessed that in recent years.
However, if things go Michael’s way in the next couple of days that will be all be forgotten for a little while and the Dunlop name will be covered with good news & happiness.
Michael will be competing in all of the bike classes in this years Isle of Man. He is looking good particularly in the Superbike and Superstock classes respectively.
