Callum Devine and his co-driver John Rowan took a start to finish victory in the Limerick based Lyons Motorgroup Circuit of Munster Rally, the fifth round of the Triton Showers National Rally Championship.
They led throughout and finished 21.9s ahead of Kilkenny’s Eddie Doherty Tom Murphy (Skoda Fabia R5) with Donegal’s Michael Boyle/Dermot McCafferty (VW Polo GTi R5) a further 11.2s behind in third.
Doherty moves into the lead of the series a point ahead of Ballylickey’s Daniel Cronin, who netted third placed points and also claimed the Power Stage point.
Josh Moffett (Citroen C3 Rally2) was an uncustomary fourth – 9.8s off top spot, he admitted his accident on the previous round was affecting his performance as he struggled for confidence.
Donegal’s Michael Boyle (VW Polo GTi R5) rounded out the top six. Desi Henry (Citroen C3 Rally2) retired prior to the start of the second stage.
Local driver Chris O’Callaghan won the modified category 11.3s ahead of Killarney’s Rob Duggan, both in Ford Escorts while Craig Rahill took the Rally4 class.
Overall this is the last time we will see the drivers now as we approach the biggest rally event in the Irish Calendar, The Donegal International Rally in just a few weeks time.
