William Creighton took his first ever British Rally Championship title while Max McRae claimed the overall win at the Cambrian Rally.

Creighton and co-driver Liam Regan finished fourth at the Cambrian Rally to comfortably claim top spot.

The 27-year-old Motorsport Ireland Rally Academy driver needed to finish no lower than eighth to win the title and he duly obliged with a safe drive in his Toyota GR Yaris.

It was a stark contrast in emotions for Creighton compared with 12 months ago, when he narrowly missed out on the BRC title to Chris Ingram at the final round of the season.

It is the latest success in Creighton’s growing resume, as the BRC title comes after triumphs in the Junior World and British Rally Championships.

Saturday’s composed drive puts Creighton on a list of BRC champions including rallying legend Colin McRae and current World Rally Championship points leader Elfyn Evans.

Creighton’s title challengers Romet Jurgenson and Meirion Evans, who both needed to win in Wales, were second and third.

Driving a Škoda Fabia RS Rally2 for the first time on gravel, 21-year-old McRae was quickest on the opening stage to establish a strong 8.7-second lead at first service.

But a puncture, allied to M-Sport driver Romet Jürgenson “finding his mojo” in the afternoon, dropped McRae just 0.1s off the lead after SS5, and then 3.5s back with just one stage to go.

However a big push on the rainy, final Alwen test allowed the Scot and co-driver Cameron Fair to take victory by 5.6s over Jürgenson and Siim Oja, with Creighton and Liam Regan’s third more than enough for them to clinch the championship in their Toyota GR Yaris Rally2.

Max became the first McRae to win a BRC event since his dad Alister topped the RSAC Scottish Rally in 1998 driving a Volkswagen Golf III Kit Car.

Kyle McBride and Darragh Mullen did the Double on the Cambrian Rally securing the Probite Junior BRC Championship & Peugeot Sport UK/Ireland Stellantis Cup with Matthew Hirst and Declan Dear taking the Open title respectively.
