Home » Sordo Edges Meeke In Portuguese Championship Finale

Dani Sordo has been crowned champion in the Portuguese championship after winning the final round of the year, the Vidreiro Rally. There, he was playing for the title against his friend and rival Kris Meeke to which he won by just 0.8 seconds.

they battled both days of competition separated by mere seconds, and in fact, they reached the final stage separated by just 0.6 seconds. The outcome was unknown until the final meter. Sordo won that final stage by 0.2 seconds over the Briton, taking the rally and the title.

Meeke was crowned Portuguese champion last year driving the Hyundai, which Sordo inherited this year after the Briton moved to Toyota. Dani was at a disadvantage, having to discover the Portuguese stages his rival had already ridden, but once again he prevailed over his friend and neighbor in Andorra, where they both live and spend their free time.

The Northern Irishman won four rallies to Sordo’s three, but two retirements to Sordo’s one proved costly.

However navigator Stuart Loudon did win the co-drivers’ title, as Cándido Carrera missed Rali Terras d’Aboboreira where Sordo was second alongside Patricia Saiz Ruiloba.
