Josh Moffett marked a return to his trusty Hyundai i20 R5 and to winning ways when he won the Tipperary Stonethrowers Rally, the sixth round of the Triton Showers National Rally Championship.

In good preparation for the upcoming Ulster Rally, at the conclusion of the eight stage event and co-driven by Limerick’s Keith Moriarty, he had just 3.4s to spare over the Hyundai i20 Rally2 of that of his brother Sam, who was co-driven by fellow Monaghan man James O’Reilly. It hasn’t been confirmed with Josh will continue using the Hyundai for the rest of the season.

The Cork pairing of Ballylickey’s Daniel Cronin and his Dunmanway co-driver Donnchadh Burke (VW Polo GTi R5) were 22.6s further behind in third, a position that was suffice to elevate them into the lead of the series.

Pre-event championship leaders Kilkenny’s Eddie Doherty and Limerick’s Tom Murphy had to be content with fifth after their Skoda Fabia R5 suffered an electrical issue that left them without a digital readout for the entire event.

Rob Duggan (Ford Escort) was the top two-wheel drive competitor, he had an untroubled run through all three stages.
