Ben Friend and Cliffy Simmons take their first BHRC win since 2021 after a crazy weekend at Rally Yorkshire.
The opening Friday stage at Daltby was halted for our front running crews due to a blockage. This left the crew five stages on the Saturday.
It proved to be a quite couple of stages for the title challengers till they arrived at Cropton.
Higgins suffered a intercom failure and picked up a double puncture in the process. Seb Perez’s Porsche developed engine issues. Hetherington had to retire on the stage with Elliott going off the road losing over a minute as a result of the mishap.
Perez still led by over 6 seconds over Robinson & McKillop with Hill & Cooper a further 5 seconds back in third place.
Dan Mennell provisionally led the charge after the first loop, overhauling Matt Robinson in Staindale. Perez nursed his Porsche towards service but with Higgins out, it was a 5 way battle at the final round.
As the day progressed Friend made his move. Taking the stage win in the finale thus claiming victory at Rally Yorkshire.
Seb Perez & Gary McElhinney claimed second overall and the category 2 win with Steve Magson & Steve Beilby for securing the Rally2 title.
