According to the Scottish daily newspaper, The Press and Journal, Aberdeen City Council is negotiating with the World Rally Championship (WRC) and Motorsport UK to bring the international motorsport event to the north-east of Scotland for three years, starting in 2026.

If successful, this would mark the first time the championship has come to Scotland in over three decades, with an expected economic impact of more than £80 million.

The proposed deal would see Aberdeen host the WRC for three consecutive years from 2026. Scotland last hosted a WRC event in 1992. The UK last played host to a WRC round in 2019 with Wales Rally GB.

The event could be based around Aberdeen, with the city’s P&J Live arena acting as the operational hub, including a service park, media centre, and race control.

Stages could take inspiration from the long-running Grampian Forest Rally, which has been held near Stonehaven and Alford since 1989.

The final decision on whether Aberdeen will host the WRC is pending further discussions with Motorsport UK and event organisers.
