Race 1

Turkey’s Toprak Razgatlioglu earned his first win for BMW in race one at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, edging Italy’s Nicolo Bulega on the last lap.

That was still enough to lift Bulega one point above England’s Alex Lowes at the top of the championship standings. Lowes finished sixth but twin brother Sam Lowes crashed out while leading.

Rea’s frustrating start with Yamaha continued as the 37-year-old was forced to retire at the end of his first lap in Saturday’s 20-lap race.

It comes after he finishing in a lowly 17th position in his first competitive outing for the team and then had to be stretchered off the circuit following a crash in race two in the opening round at Phillip Island, Australia in February.

Bulega appeared on course to replicate the race one win he achieved in Australia but Razgatlioglu was able to make up a deficit of almost four seconds at halfway to overhaul the Italian in a dramatic final lap.

Race 2

Spain’s Bautista took victory ahead of Nicolo Bulega in a Ducati one-two on Race 2. It marked a 60th World Superbike race win for Bautista, who rose to second in the overall standings with his first win of the season.

But it is Italian Bulega, 24, who sits top after two rounds with 87 points – 12 ahead of Bautista.

Turkey’s Toprak Razgatlioglu completed a successful weekend, in which he claimed wins in race one and Sunday’s Superpole race, earning another podium place by finishing third in race two.

Six-time champion Jonathan Rea earned his first points of this year’s World Superbike series with an eighth-place finish in race two in Barcelona, which Alvaro Bautista won.
