A mind blowing run by Mark Higgins and Carl Williamson saw them blitz the opposition throughout Friday to take a maximum points haul away from leg one in their TR7 V8.

Michael McDaid and Declan Casey snatched a last-gap Day Two maximum points haul in their Escort MK2. The winning margin was just 0.4s over the line of the final stage over Richard Hill.

In what proved to be a competitive two days of historic rallying, an outstanding run in the darkness meant Mark Higgins/Carl Williamson head into Day 2 with a stellar lead in the TR7.

James/Evans was behind by over 55 seconds with Perez/McElhinney 1min+44secs behind in third. Surely Higgins had it in the bag?

The drama continued though at the Manx with a stage maximum for Higgins potentially bringing his day 2 to a half. That gave Gareth James the provisional BHRC lead.

However the MK2 driver retired on SS12 to hand the battle over to Richard Hill and Seb Perez who are now split by just 17s going into the final three stages.

But there was nothing in it between them and Michael McDaid/Declan Casey – just 3.7s separating them. Perez/McElhinney had blasted up the order and where 16s away from the win.

In the end Seb Perez and Gary McElhinney overhaul Richard Hill and Patrick Cooper on the final stage to win by just 0.1s to claim their second win of the season in the main BHRC Category despite competing in category 2.
