This makes it back-to-back victories in Donegal for Devine, claiming the premier tarmac rally in Ireland brilliantly ahead of the chasing pack.

The win did not come without incident for Devine, having survived an off in the middle of day 2 and ripping off the front bumper of his Skoda – but he persevered and kept his head to get to the end P1.

Multiple British Rally champion Edwards led for the majority of the event and his advantage was over Devine stood at 16.2 seconds heading into Sunday’s six stages.

However, Edwards suffered suspension damage on the 16th stage to hand Devine the lead and, despite the scare on the penultimate loop, the 30-year-old held his nerve on the final stage to take victory for the second year in a row.

Welshman Meirion Evans pushed Devine all the way in his Toyota GR Yaris R2, as he secured a well-earned second place finish.

Rounding off the podium finishers overall was David Kelly in his Volkswagen Polo, a strong final day for him seeing off former leader Matt Edwards who ended up fourth, and Josh Moffett in fifth.

Meanwhile it was a commanding win for Declan Gallagher in the modified section, as he secured the modified class win and a ninth place finish overall – ahead of a number of Rally2 cars in his RWD Toyota Starlet.
