Euan Thorburn and co-driver Paul Beaton have won the prestigious Scottish Rally Championship for the fourth time after claiming victory on the Grampian Forest Rally last Saturday in their VW Polo GTI R5.
Thorburn beat local man Scott Beattie following a rally-long battle, which ended when Thorburn getting the better of him in the end of the event.
In the opening stages Thorburn set the pace opening up a 5.4s in hand over local man Scott Beattie. By the halfway stage Beattie usurped champion elect Euan Thorburn, who admitted he is driving with the title in mind.
With a fourth SRC title on the line, Thorburn upped his pace on the second of the afternoons three loops and jumped ahead of Beattie by 13.5s.
By then it was more than enough to not just claim the win but claim that prestigious fourth title.
It had been in impressive season for Thorburn. This was his third Scottish victory of the season after picking up wins in Argyll and Jim Clark Rallies respectively.
