The opening round of the Northern Ireland Forest Rally Championship has been postponed due to damage caused by Storm Eowyn.

In a statement put up on Omagh Motorclub’s Facebook page, “Due to ongoing discussions with DAERA Forestry Service and Fermanagh & Omagh District Council today, the Club has decided the rally will not take place as planned within Fivemiletown forests due to damage caused by Storm Eowyn.

The Club will endeavour to explore all the options available for the event later in the year. As previously stated, all entry fees will be refunded in full.”

Omagh Motor Club were continuing to progress the Samsonas Fivemiletown Rally planned for Saturday 22d February.

After the devastating impact of Storm Eowyn, they were closely liaising with DAERA Forestry Service and Fermanagh & Omagh District Council to try and ensure the safe running of this popular event and first round of the Northern Ireland Rally Forestry Challenge, but a final decision would be jointly made by all parties by the 12th February to which that was made earlier than planned.
