Mennell and Roberts Claim BHRC Opener At Riponian Stages

The opening round of the British Historic Rally Championship got underway at the Riponian Stages with Dan Mennell and John Roberts taking the Category 3 and opening round win of 2025 in there MK2 Escort.

In wet and foggy conditions, setting a benchmark time on stage 1 was going to be crucial for the rest of the day and David Crossen did just that.

A brutal opening stage seen retirements for Robinson, Lepley and Squires amongst others. But David Crossen set the pace over the 7 mile Gale Rigg with Daniel Mennell and Ben Friend giving chase.

Mennell stormed into the lead on SS2 and extend that in Boltby with a storming run. Crossen suffered a half spin but the race was still on for round 1 glory and it’s close for the podium.

With two stages to Mennell was in control but there was a huge battle for the podium behind with Crossen comfortable in 2nd but Friend and Henderson have a charging Hetherington to contend with.

Dan Mennell and John Roberts took the win finishing 20 seconds ahead of David Crossen and Ben Teggart with Adrian Hetherington & Ronan O’Neill edging out Henderson and Lees in that final podium position.

Next stop on the BHRC Calendar is Carlisle Stages on April 12th.
