Tragedy struck during the rally in Nysa. During the competition, a crash resulted in the death of driver Artur Sękowski. Co-driver Maciej Krzysik was taken to hospital.
In a statement supplied by the rally organisers “At approximately 11:30 a.m. on special stage no. 6 Stary Las (Nysa County, Głuchołazy Commune) between the towns of Polski Świętów and Sucha Kamienica, an accident occurred involving the BMW crew no. 112, participating in a round of the historic championship,”
“The car hit a tree and then caught fire. Despite immediate first aid, the 40-year-old driver died at the scene. The burned pilot was freed from the car and taken to hospital in serious condition,” the release added.
Following Sunday’s accident, the Nysa Rally was ended on the sixth special stage by the organizers. “Out of respect for the injured, their loved ones, and the entire rally community, the organizers have decided to end the event. The competition will not continue,” the statement said.
